Project Spotlight: Acrylic Dance Floor Pool Cover

Acrylic has been increasingly utilized in weddings, especially clear acrylic. It fits with any wedding theme and adds a unique, custom touch. We have seen it used for menus, centerpieces, alters, chuppahs, and light fixtures, just to name a few. The latest wedding project to utilize our plastic, an acrylic pool cover, also happens to be one of our favorites. Not only is the acrylic pool cover visually stunning, it also showcases the versatility of the plastic. GTX Event Productions, owned by Jeff Raines, purchased twenty-four 4'x8' sheets of acrylic from our Houston branch. The project designer, Stan Weigand, said their choice to use acrylic was simple. Of the 24 sheets of acrylic, 14 had to be custom cut. GTX Event Productions stated, "Acrylic is the only material that we could easily cut, drill holes into, anchor and withstand the weight of over 200 guests doing ceremonial Indian wedding dances." The event planner, Therese Cole-Hubbs, added, "Creative dance floors are a new trend this year, and adding the acrylic piece took this even over the top. Guests were amazed as this brings an element of excitement to the party." We were excited to see that acrylic fulfilled their client's wish to "dance on water". The use of clear acrylic was also a perfect choice as it allowed for custom lighting that fit in perfectly with the overall theme and decor. Plus, it allowed the clients to increase their available space. Instead of having to work around the pool, they made it a functional, show-stopping feature. After the success of this event, GTX Event Productions has since replicated this project for other weddings. We think that acrylic pool covers are here to stay, and we can't wait to see what our customers are able to think of next.
