Plastics in Manufacturing

Plastic parts are becoming more common in industrial machining and architectural glazing applications. For industrial application, parts previously fabricated of metal are now being replaced by plastic parts that provide longer wear and top performance without lubrication. Results indicated reduced maintenance costs and less downtime.

Because of plastic's superior forming capabilities, it is also the ideal material for forming applications whether it be for an industrial housing unit or an architectural product. The superior impact resistance of plastics is required by law in many glazing applications.

Regal Plastic Supply Company's manufacturing divisions can supply you with all fabrication work from concept, through design and fabrication, to a finished product. For column industrial machining applications, we can refer you to the top local businesses to handle your specific job. Save yourself some time and trouble, and give us a call first.

ADVANTAGES OF PLASTIC OVER METAL

  • A small number of parts can be produced at relatively little cost.
  • Prototype parts can be produced and tested for low cost.
  • Large parts, even with close tolerances are economical to produce.
  • Many identical parts can be produced in a few operations.
  • Secondary operations are generally not necessary for good surface finish and close tolerances.
  • Can view operations through it.
Acrylic Butterflies

These whmiscal acrylic butterflies brightened up a plain forboding metal fence protecting an amusement park in San Antonio. Different colors of 1/4" acrylic were cut to represent various sized butterflies, much to the delight of the children who play there.

This customer needed a mobile cash register stand that would withstand harsh elements and would last longer than wood or pressboard. The stands were built from 3/4" tan Sanalite and will last nearly forever.
The 3/4” Sanalite is a HDPE sheet with a texture. The texture will hide scratches, it is easily cleaned, the Sanalite is approved for food contact, it could be sprayed with a water hose and will not rot.

These white pictures to the left are 1/2" thick white acrylic 48" x 48" panels.

Any picture can be scanned into our CNC program and then a custom engraved picture is cut.

Varying the depth of the cut gives the panel different shades of gray.

The picture is then backlit to create a very original and unique engraving.

When the owner of the Charger Electric ATV needed a strong and durable windshield they came to Regal Plastics.

Lexan MR10 was used for it's unbreakable properties and scratch resistant protection to keep it looking great for many years

Salad Bar Trim

This cafeteria was using shaved ice to fill in around salad trays to keep items cold. It was difficult to keep clean when items were spilled onto the ice. A custom curved top and cold water replaced the ice. The cover was made of 1/2" white plastic cutting board that held the trays in place; spills were easy to wipe clean and time was saved at the end of the day for final clean up.

Superman Display

When Superman retires one of his capes, he needs a nice display case to show it off. The front panel of this case is 1/4" clear acrylic with curved sides for beauty and to minimize gluing. Back panel is black acrylic.

Hospital Safety Cover

Housekeeping workers needed to be protected when they were dumping waste into a hospital sink. This cover is clear so it is easy to dump waste into the sink. A small white door at the top center is included for easy flushing. The whole door is hinged for easy cleaning and maintenance.

Trade Show Display

This display is supported by removeable legs that hold it at a 45 angle for best viewing. The back panel is 1/4" translucent white that may be backlit for beauty and to attract attention. The front is 1/4" clear acrylic. When the show is over the legs may be easily removed for shipping

"The acrylic pieces that you cut for us are working out great. Attached are a couple of photos of some chandeliers that we are using it in.

Acrylic Bar Project
San Antonio

Here is one of our projects that we completed in two weeks. The customer had his Grand Opening on time and was very happy with the work.

Talk a little bit about the job: Start at the back of the bar. The back is double sided frost with a reverse engraving on each panel which stands at 38" x 81" tall. It also has over 600 LEDs, five transformers and holds about 75 liquor bottles on each side.

The bar top is ¾” acrylic which we sanded for the frost look. We installed 48" t-8 fluorescents lights and custom made the deflector shield to cover the full effect of the lights to give us the washed look.

The VIP walls were trimmed out with 25mm Celtic to hide the LEDs; covered with 7328 white; then installed two-sided frosted for the finished product.

We also installed lights on a steel column and wrapped it with frosted acrylic..

ABC’s Extreme Makeover: Home Edition (EMHE) sets out to completely remodel the home of a disadvantaged family in one week. During a recent episode, the show’s producers wished to create a unique chair that would have the appearance of being made from ice. To provide this look they needed a unique plastic material that could be formed in a very short time, and a fabricator that was up to the task of turning the design of the chair into reality.

Thanks to a San Antonio-based plastics distributor and a superior acrylic product, this was one extreme makeover that was extremely easy to produce. The episode’s storyline profiled the Craft family of Hondo, Texas. This family was particularly deserving due to the father’s instrumental role in the community and the youngest daughter’s diagnosis with Alobar Holoprosencephaly, a serious brain malformation. High on the list of priorities was bringing a smile to Samantha’s face, the oldest daughter with a penchant for Alaska. Designers transformed her bedroom into the Igloo Room, and to accentuate the chilly ambiance, EMHE designers envisioned a funky, ice-clear chair as one of the highlights. Click here for full story.
