ABS

ABS plastic sheets in black haircell texture. Impact-resistant, machinable, thermoformable, and considerably more budget-friendly than polycarbonate at comparable thicknesses. Standard 4x8 sheets in stock with same-day cut-to-size available. Used across automotive, manufacturing, electrical enclosure, and OEM parts applications.

Common Names: ABS, Thermoplastic, Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene

Pros: Impact Resistant, Chemical Resistant, Machinable, Formable, Rigid, Scratch Resistant, Budget Friendly Option

Popular Applications: Automotive Panels, Trim, & Speaker Boxes, Electrical Component Enclosures, Thermoformed Parts

Why ABS Plastic Sheeting?

ABS (Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene) is one of the most widely chosen thermoplastics due to its extreme durability and machinability.

It is rigid enough to hold its shape under load, tough enough to handle impact without cracking, light enough to make sense for automotive and transportation applications, and priced well below materials like polycarbonate that offer similar impact resistance. ABS plastic sheets also thermoform cleanly, bond well with adhesives, and accept mechanical fasteners without splitting.

That combination is hard to find at this price point, which is why ABS shows up in everything from vehicle interior panels to electrical enclosures to photo booth shells.

ABS provides high impact resistance and durability at a lighter weight and lower cost than most other woods, metals, and even plastics.

Where ABS Plastic Sheets Get Used

General manufacturing and machine parts are the most common. Machine guards, OEM enclosures, equipment panels, prototype components, and structural housings are all standard ABS applications. We supply automotive manufacturers, including several electric vehicle producers, who choose ABS plastic sheets specifically because they provide structural integrity at a lower weight than metal, which matters for range efficiency.

Electrical component enclosures are another core use. ABS plastic sheets are a natural fit for electrical housings because they're rigid, machinable, and don't conduct electricity. Certain grades meet UL flammability ratings, which matters for enclosure applications in commercial settings.

Hot and cold aisle containment in data centers uses ABS plastic sheets for end caps, blanking panels, and custom enclosure components. The material cuts precisely, installs cleanly, and holds up well in the climate-controlled environments typical of server room installations.

Photo booths and custom display structures are another area where we fabricate in ABS regularly. The combination of rigidity, haircell surface, and ease of bonding makes it practical for one-off and small-batch custom builds.

ABS Plastic Sheets vs. Other Thermoplastics

ABS vs. HIPS - HIPS sheets are lighter and cheaper, which makes them a better fit for thin-gauge display and signage applications where impact resistance isn't a concern. ABS plastic sheets are tougher and hold up better in structural and handling applications. If cost is the only driver and impact resistance doesn't matter, HIPS wins. Otherwise, ABS is worth the small price difference.

ABS vs. PETG - PETG sheets thermoform more easily and have better clarity options, making them the better choice for packaging and display applications where appearance drives the decision. ABS plastic sheets win in terms of rigidity and structural performance for housings and machine components.

ABS vs. Polycarbonate - Polycarbonate sheets offer significantly higher impact resistance and are the material to specify for security barriers, safety glazing, and applications where failure isn't an option. ABS plastic sheets are the more economical choice where good impact resistance is sufficient and optical clarity isn't required.

ABS vs. UHMW - For wear parts, conveyor components, and applications involving sliding contact, UHMW plastic sheets are the better material. ABS plastic sheets don't have the abrasion resistance of UHMW and aren't the right call for high-wear applications.
